The role
Work with a small team of highly dedicated engineers to build and scale thirdweb. You will take ownership of our backend architecture, focusing on designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and performant systems that power thirdweb’s platform. You’ll make critical decisions on architecture, developer experience, and infrastructure that impact all of thirdweb’s products.
What a typical week might look like
- Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs with a strong focus on scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Build and improve distributed systems that interface with blockchain technologies and other modern infrastructures.
- Collaborate with product and design teams to plan and implement solutions that solve customer challenges and drive new features.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and review code to ensure high-quality engineering standards.
- Write and maintain technical documentation for APIs and developer-facing systems.
What we're looking for
- 4+ years of experience designing, building, and scaling production-grade backend systems
- Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure and tools (AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, or similar)
- Solid understanding of database design and optimization
- Excited about working at a startup - a fast-paced, unstructured environment that prioritizes delivering impact
- Enjoys being a self-starter who takes full ownership of their work, driving technical solutions to ambiguous problems from concept to completion
- Interest in blockchain and web3, with a desire to learn more and innovate in the space
Bonus Points
- Experience with developer-first products (SDKs, API design, technical documentation)
- Experience with billing systems set up with Stripe
- Experience with blockchain development (interacting with wallets or smart contracts)
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation

Compensation
- $180k - $240k annual salary range
- 0.05% - 0.1% equity range
